Alexandria's Finest: Warhorse Pride

Congratulations to Coach Charles Smith and the fine young men for a perfect 41-0 season with another state championship.  Our 6th state championship and 4th in the last 10 years.  Coach Smith is a great mentor and role model to our young men.  We admit that we don't have a lot of positive things to say about Alexandria right now.  The Warhorses are an exception to that.  A lot of people around here don't think we have the people to turn this town around.  They are wrong.  Just look at what Coach Smith and our fine young men have done over the last 10 years.  We just have to find the right people, elect them and hold them to high standards.  Our special thanks to Coach Smith and these fine young men.
“It’s a blessing,” he said. “Having this legendary man coach and teach me ... putting on this green-and-white uniform, it all means so much to me. It’s been a blast.”   - Team captain Markel Brown
And this is how great men talk:
"The kids had to dig deep, really deep, for this one tonight,” Smith said. “It’s a tribute to the resiliency of this team that we were able to fight back.”
“I think not a lot of people understand how much her support has meant all these years,” Smith said about his wife, Rosa. “All the hours of practice, not being at home ... she has always stood by me. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of watching so many young men grow into wonderful individuals, and Rosa has been a big part of that.”
Our prayers are with Wayne Powell and his family, who died last year in a pickup game.  This season was dedicated to him.  God bless.
